| Remarks | 'anjoobe' is the general name applied to members of this species. The Soninké call this fish 'the dogfish' because its teeth are pointed like those of the dog. Long 'anjoobe' has a black upper caudal fin and a yellow lower caudal fin like the color of the flower 'banta'. Short 'anjoobe' has black upper caudal fin and red lower caudal fin. The long 'anjoobe' with yellow lower caudal fin is more ferocious and often thinner than the short one (Demba Traoré). According to Diabé Sow, a dogfish jumped and bit his half brother in the neck causing him to bleed to his death and all Kounghani came to the river to mourn. |
