Diagnosis: |
Dorsal spines (total): 2-3; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7-8; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 11-14. Compressed body, dorsal fin inserted behind the origin of pelvic fins. Mouth subterminal, lower jaw at an angle of 25-40° to the horizontal. Pharyngeal teeth 5-5. Silvery body with a dark lateral band. |

Found in ponds and slow-moving rivers in very dense populations. |
