Family:  Rivulidae (Rivulines), subfamily: Rivulinae
Max. size:  7.1 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater; brackish; pH range: 6 - 7; depth range 20 - 80 m, non-migratory
Distribution:  South America: French Guiana (Ref. 36579) and Suriname (Ref. 59052). Status of this species is uncertain; possibly a regional form of Rivulus urophthalmus.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occurs in flooded savannas and coastal swamps which are sunlit. Frequently found in shallow waters and is sympatric with other Rivulus of French Guiana except R. ocellatus (Ref. 27188). Not a seasonal killifish. Juveniles are released from eggs measuring 1.2 mm (Ref. 35237). Sexual differentiation is possible at 4 months; sexual maturity is reached at 5 months of age (Ref. 27188). Calm and passive; is easy to maintain in the aquarium (Ref. 27139).
