Family:  Syngnathidae (Pipefishes and seahorses), subfamily: Syngnathinae
Max. size:  10 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine
Distribution:  Western Atlantic: North Carolina, USA and northern Gulf of Mexico to Brazil. Absent from west of Mississippi Delta and in Caribbean (Ref. 26938)
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Ovoviviparous (Ref. 205). The male carries the eggs in a brood pouch which is found under the tail (Ref. 205).

Threat to humans:  harmless
