| Diagnosis: | Dorsal soft rays (total): 67-67; Anal soft rays: 49-49; Vertebrae: 36-36. Description: Characterized by mottled brown color with three rows of 3-4 dark brown blotches; dorsal rays branched except first 10 rays; all anal rays branched; caudal rays 16; pectoral fins absent; lateral line of eyed side unbranched with 73 scales, including 8 anterior to upper end of gill opening; absence of caudal peduncle; ctenoid scales; tubular anterior nostril short, not reaching edge of eye when laid back; dense zone of pointed papillae on ocular side of snout before anterior nostril; posterior flap on ventroposterior end of operculum with long cirri; numerous cirri on membranous ridge of anterior dorsal and anal rays; eye diameter 3.8 in head length; depth of body 2.5 in SL (Ref. 90102). | |||
