Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: Dahlak Archipelago, Red Sea.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 58-62; Anal soft rays: 39-41. Diagnosis: Dorsal rays 58-62; anal rays 39-41; dorsal, anal, and pelvic rays are unbranched; caudal rays 14-16, the rays branched except two on each side; lateral-line scales to above upper end of gill opening 51-64 (an additional count or 8 or 9 might be expected to continue onto head); scales with 10-15 cteni; body depth 2.4-2.45 in SL; head length (HL) 3.6-4.14 in SL; snout length 2.3-2.85 in HL; eye diameter 6.65-8.35 in HL; interorbital space narrow, the width 16-33 in HL; tubular anterior nostril long; caudal peduncle long, about 3.5 in HL; caudal peduncle depth about 1.7 in HL; longest dorsal ray about 1.2 in HL; caudal fin long, about 3.2 in SL; light brown with irregularly arranged brown blotches (Ref. 57561).
