This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: black markings on lower jaw that are continuous with two black downward curved bars on the anterior throat, ending with rounded bulging ends near edge of lower jaw resembling a distinct omega (?) pattern; opercle uniform brown with light dark brown mottling, operculum without lower distal margin black; black transverse bars on the dorsal and caudal fin interradial membranes; absence of a dark distal border on anal fin (Ref. 127779). |
This species is currently recorded only from the remnant black water swamps in Johor, Malaysia. Maximum length based on type specimen, to be replaced with a better reference (Ref. 127779). |
