Family:  Labridae (Wrasses), subfamily: Bodianinae
Max. size:  51 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 20 - 200 m
Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: Azores, Madeira, Canary Islands and Cape Verde.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Adults inhabit rocky bottoms (Ref. 2683). Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). Sold fresh in markets.
