Max. size:  60 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 45 - 290 m
Distribution:  Western Central Atlantic: throughout the Gulf of Mexico (excluding Florida, USA) to Cuba. Reported to range south to Suriname (Ref. 13608).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Found on muddy bottoms. Marketed mostly fresh.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 29 January 2013 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
