Distribution: | Indo-West Pacific: tropical, widespread. Questionably occurring in the Mascarenes (Ref. 33390). Distribution is probably similar to that of Chirocentrus dorab but not always distinguished from that species (Ref. 188). | |||
Diagnosis: | Diagnosis: The slightly longer pectoral fin, 13-18% of standard length, and the absence of black markings on the dorsal fin tip are the only satisfactory characters separating this species from Chirocentrus dorab; also there is no black on the anterior part of the anal fin (Ref. 188). Description: Pectoral fin longer than distance between eye centre and hind border of gill cover (Ref. 30573). Scales numerous, small, usually lost (Ref. 37816). Colouration: Silvery; back bright blue, fading to grey; flanks bright silver (Ref. 37816). | |||
Biology: | Pelagic in coastal waters, from the shore to a depth of about 150 m (Ref. 30573). It feeds on small fish and crustaceans (Ref. 5213, 30573). Marketed fresh or frozen. | |||
