Family:  Gobiidae (Gobies), subfamily: Gobionellinae
Max. size:  5 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 0 - 40 m
Distribution:  Western Central Atlantic: southern Florida, USA and the Bahamas to South America.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 7-8; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-13; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 12-12. Mottled light gray dorsally, shading to white ventrally, with a midlateral row of blackish dashes, often alternating with small black spots; a vertical black line through eye (Ref. 13442).
Biology:  Inhabits open bottoms composed of sand and fine silt (Ref. 5521). Observed to share a burrow with shrimps.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 10 January 2014 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
