Family:  Cynoglossidae (Tonguefishes), subfamily: Cynoglossinae
Max. size:  60 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; brackish; marine; depth range 10 - 300 m
Distribution:  Eastern Central Atlantic: Mauritania and the Canary Islands to Angola (9°20'S).
Diagnosis:  Diagnosis: 10-13, exceptionally 14, transversal scales between the mid-lateral line and the margino-dorsal lateral line (Ref. 81682).
Biology:  Found on sand and mud bottoms of coastal waters (Ref. 2683).
IUCN Red List Status: Near Threatened (NT); Date assessed: 20 May 2014 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
