Family:  Scorpaenidae (Scorpionfishes or rockfishes), subfamily: Pteroinae
Max. size:  4.5 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range - 143 m
Distribution:  Northwest Pacific: Japan.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 13-13; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-10; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 7-7. This species is distinguished by the following set of characters: D 10; A 7; pectoral-fn rays 18; scale rows in longitudinal series 51; snout barbels 3; supraocular tentacle with numerous short branches on posterior margin, without lateral branches; small flap on uppermost preopercular spine base; fresh specimens with reddish K-shaped marking on caudal peduncle just before caudal-fn base (Ref. 123552).
