Family:  Myctophidae (Lanternfishes), subfamily: Diaphinae
Max. size:  12 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range - 350 m, oceanodromous
Distribution:  Circumglobal in all three oceans in the region of the subtropical convergence (35°-48°S). Southeast Atlantic: 23°43'S, 12°56'E and 23°25'S, 11°39'E.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 15-17; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 14-16
Biology:  Oceanic and mesopelagic (Ref. 4066, 75154). At night, juveniles found in less than 100 m while larger individuals below 160 m.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 10 July 2012 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
