Max. size:  90 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 18 - 193 m
Distribution:  Pacific Ocean: Pacific coast of Japan (Ref. 43239) and the Hawaiian Islands; Australia, New Zealand and Lord Howe, Norfolk and Kermadec Islands.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Benthopelagic over reef and sand (Ref. 58302). Found in pairs or small groups in deep rocky drop-offs (Ref. 9710).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 29 November 2023 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
