Dorsal spines (total): 12-12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-10; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 10-10. Distinct with the following characters: D XII,10; A III,10; pectoral rays 15; upper jaw length 2.25-2.40 in HL; length of pelvic fin 0.91-1.06 in HL; shallow emarginate caudal fin; body golden yellow, except for magenta surrounding pelvic-fin insertion, along ventral isthmus, operculum, and branchiostegal membranes (usually with a separate tiny streak underlining posterior mandible) and rearward along ventral abdomen; pelvic fins are bright purple-magenta with a darker streak along length of second soft-ray; presence of magenta patch covering first 3-4 dorsal-fin spines (not extending onto body) and surrounding an oval black spot about pupil diameter on outer half of first 3 spinous membranes (Ref. 85755). |
Found on walls, in shallow reef areas (Ref. 85755). Minimum depth at 5 m (B. Victor, pers. omm. 10/18). |
