Family:  Apogonidae (Cardinalfishes), subfamily: Pseudamiinae
Max. size:  2.7 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 0 - 18 m
Distribution:  Indo-Pacific: Taiwan and Ryukyu Islands south to Australia eastward to French Polynesia (Society Islands); throughout Micronesia.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 7-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-9; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 9-10. Distinct dark B-shaped spot on caudal fin base (Ref. 37816). Description: Characterized by semi-transparent body with readily visible dark vertebral column; side of snout with black spot; caudal fin base with large double black spot; absence of scales on head and body; large spine at middle of preopercular margin; greatest depth of body 3.5-4.5 in SL (Ref. 90102).
Biology:  Occurs around coral reefs, schooling with young of other apogonids (Ref. 559). Nocturnal species (Ref. 7300).
