Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7-9; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 6-6. Eight (rarely 7 or 9) branched rays in the dorsal fin; dorsal-fin membrane expanded posteriorly, connecting proximal half of the last dorsal-fin ray to the dorsum; teeth cusps equal in size (Ref. 50588). |
Type specimens were collected in small coastal streams flowing through well-preserved Atlantic forest; in localities between 100 and 370 m a.s.l., always in rocky substrate with fast flowing, clear water, under direct sunlight, and depths between 10 and 50 cm. Underwater observations indicate that this species is most active during the night, grazing on the bottom (Ref. 57859). |
