Family:  Platytroctidae (Tubeshoulders)
Max. size:  25 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 700 - 2700 m
Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: west of Iceland to off south-western tip of Ireland, Mauritania, Senegal and Namibia. Elsewhere, tropical and subtropical western Atlantic.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Mesopelagic, but mostly bathypelagic to benthopelagic.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 15 July 2014 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
