Dorsal spines (total): 4-4; Dorsal soft rays (total): 21-21; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 17-17; Vertebrae: 29-29. Description: Characterized by head and body generally pale bluish grey to white; mottled brown on upper half of body; 10 red bars on lower half of side from base of pectoral fin to base of caudal fin; pair of black spots at red bar below eye; spinous dorsal fin with large black spot; three rows of black spots on soft dorsal fin; brown to reddish bands and whitish or yellow central portion on caudal fin; dorsal fin rays IV,21; anal fin rays I,17; pectoral fin rays 17; lateral line scales 59; scales above first lateral-line scales to origin of dorsal fin 7; scales below lateral line posteroventrally to origin of anal fin 12; median predorsal scales 10; circumpeduncular scales 26; gill rakers 6+10=16; three recurved canine teeth on each side at front of lower jaw; palatine teeth absent; ctenoid body scales, becoming cycloid on abdomen and breast; ctenoid scales on opercle; weakly ctenoid to cycloid scales on cheeks; depth of body 5.2-6.1 in SL; vertebrae 29 (Ref. 90102). |
Biology: |
Inhabits near shore, sand rubble bottom with scattered rock and coral outcrops in about 2-20 m, often in less than 8 m, solitary (Ref. 90102). |
