Distribution:  South America: Brazil.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 6-6; Anal soft rays: 9-9; Vertebrae: 48-52. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: multicuspid teeth; 48-52 vertebrae; pelvic-fin origin distinctly anterior to dorsal-fin origin; body uniformly colored; pectoral fin with six branched rays; maxillary barbel not reaching pectoral-fin origin; shorter first pectoral-fin ray vs second (Ref. 133468).
Biology:  The species inhabits waters characterized by shallow, clear, and fast-flowing currents, with substrate composed of rocks and submeged vegetation (Ref. 133468).
