Family:  Holocentridae (Squirrelfishes, soldierfishes), subfamily: Myripristinae
Max. size:  30 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 14 - 220 m
Distribution:  Indian Ocean: Reunion and Western Australia. Pacific Ocean: Japan, Lord Howe, Hawaiian, Kermadec (Ref. 8879) and Easter islands.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 12-12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 14-15; Anal spines: 4-4; Anal soft rays: 11-12. Reddish orange in color, each scale with white spot forming longitudinal white lines (Ref. 4201).
Biology:  Benthopelagic in or near crevices and caves at 9-348 m (Ref. 58302). Nocturnal (Ref. 7300).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 04 March 2015 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
