Having 6-11 dark bars on the body not very contrasted, especially anterior ones, usually very faint in lower half of body; caudal peduncle with bars usually not reaching ventral mid-line; absence of median incision in upper lip; incomplete lateral line, reaching to anal fin origin (Ref. 43281). |

Seems to prefer stretches with relatively slow current and gravel or sandy substrate (Ref. 27732). |
