Family:  Cyprinidae (Minnows or carps), subfamily: Schizothoracinae
Max. size:  60 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater, potamodromous
Distribution:  Asia: Himalayan region of India, Sikkim and Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Adults inhabit mountain streams and rivers (Ref. 41236), preferring to live among rocks (Ref. 4832). Are herbivores feeding mainly on algae, aquatic plants and detritus (Ref. 6351). Mature individuals breed during April and May (Ref. 4832). The flesh of this species is much relished (Ref. 4832).
