Family:  Soleidae (Soles)
Max. size:  65 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; brackish; marine; depth range 1 - 100 m
Distribution:  Mediterranean Sea: Tunisia to Egypt, Suez Canal, southern extremity of the Adriatic Sea. Recorded from Lake Quarum in Egypt. Often confused with the sympatric Solea vulgaris Quensel 1806, a junior synonym of Solea solea (Linnaeus, 1758).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  On soft bottom in coastal waters. Feeds on benthic invertebrates, e.g., cnidarians, polychaete worms, and bivalves.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 12 July 2014 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
