Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 6 - 175 m
Distribution:  Western Central Atlantic: Bahamas and the Greater Antilles to northern South America. Also St. Johns, Virgin Islands (Ref. 50108).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 19-21; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8-9; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 17-17; Vertebrae: 31-33
Biology:  Inhabits rich coral tops of drop-offs (Ref. 9710) to at least 175 m. Associated with Condylactis gigantea (Ref. 9710).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 18 October 2007 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
