Max. size:  21 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater; depth range 5 - 40 m
Distribution:  Africa: Endemic to Lake Malawi.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occurs over open sandy areas, usually by itself. Feeds by filtering the sand through the gills and retaining the insect larvae and other edible material found in the sand (Ref. 5595).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 19 June 2018 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
