Comments: Known from Buenos Aires and San Luis (Ref. 33128). Found in upper Paraná and lower reaches of Uruguay (Ref. 56308). Recorded as having been or being farmed in rice fields (Ref. 119549). Popular as a sport fish in Cabra Corral, a dam in Salta Province, where a small-scale fishery has begun (Ref. 45197). Also Ref. 1739, 27363.
