Comments: Type locality, Amazonas: Rio Tefé, Toco Preto, Tefé, MCP 41636 (holotype of Sternarchorhynchus retzeri, 37.2 cm TL, sexually dimorphic male). Broadly distributed across the Amazon basin from the Rio Iça basin in the western portions of Amazonas to the Rio Trombetas in Pará (Ref. 84053).
