Known from the Italian peninsula and islands (Ref. 94493), and recorded from Ombrogne, Albegna and Fiora (Ref. 45688). The species has been stocked yearly. Naturalized during the 17th century (Ref. 45688). Recorded as having been or being farmed in rice fields (Ref. 119549). Also Ref. 683, 124672.
