Comments: Type locality of the holotype of Melanochromis interruptus: 'off Likoma Island, Lake Malawi, Malawi' (Ref. 90068). Type locality of the holotype of Melanochromis elastodema: 'Chisumulu Island (Liwello Bay), Lake Malawi, Malawi' (Ref. 26078). Known from Lake Malawi (Ref. 26078, 90068); it was endemic to Likoma Island (Ref. 90068) and the southwestern region of Chisumulu Island (Ref. 26078), but has been introduced at Madimba Bay, at Nkhata Bay and at Thumbi West Island (Ref. 26078).
