Etymology: Gymnogeophagus: Greek, gymnos = naked + Greek, gea = the earth + Greek, phaegein, to eat (Ref. 45335); taroba: Name from Tarobá, a warrior, referring to a legend of the Kaingang people; noun in apposition.
