Comments: Known from the European Black Sea watersheds, Anatolian Black Sea watersheds, Caspian Sea watersheds and Central Anatolian lake watersheds (Ref. 58342). Also Ref. 106151. Distributed in all rivers of the Black sea basin from Rezovska in the west to Coruh in the east and in lakes of the northwestern Anatolia. Probably spread further south in Western Turkey since it is also found at Aydin (Ref. 33550). Translocated to Akköy Dam Lake in 1969, Isparta Gölcük Lake in 1970-1971, Sarimsakli Dam Lake (Kayseri) in 1970-1975, Bayindir Dam Lake (Ankara) in 1971, Gölköy (Bolu) Lake in 1975. It has successfully maintained populations in these areas (Ref. 57271). Threatened by habitat loss, eutrophication/pollution and construction of weirs/dams in rivers. In Appendix III of the Bern Convention (protected fauna) and listed on Annex II of the EU Habitats Directive under the name Chalcalburnus chalcoides (Ref. 58342). Status of threat: Endangered (Ref. 58342). EurTurk.
