Type locality of Scomber hippos (South) Carolina; of Caranx defensor, New York and Carangus esculentus, Brazos, Texas (Ref. 58464). Known from the northeastern USA (Ref. 9626) and northern Gulf of Mexico (Ref. 7251). Found in the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary (Ref. 45556). Abundant along the east coast during summer (Ref. 9710).
