Known from the Mississippi River basin from Wisconsin and Minnesota south to Mississippi and Texas in the USA, in the Lake Michigan drainage in Wisconsin, and in the Sabine and Neches River drainages in Texas. Generally sporadic and uncommon; common in a few rivers in northern and western parts of range; extremely rare in Kentucky, Tennessee and Mississippi (Ref. 5723).
