Code

(English) An abbreviation of the title 'International Code of Zoological Nomenclature'. The code contains the rules and recommendations referring to the availability of scientific names in the animal kingdom; a printed set of rules that is periodically reviewed by an international body of zoologists, also: the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature, a system of rules and recommendations regulating nomenclature. The most recent version of the Codeis the Fourth Edition published in September 1999 and taking effect on January 1st 2000. (See also: commission, taxonomy)
