Definition of Term

tree
(English) A tree is a branching diagram depicting nearest-neighbor relationships. Neighbors are taxa connected by a single branch. Phylogenetic trees represent the hypothesized genealogical relationship between taxa with a common ancestor (= rooted tree). (See also: taxon, genealogy, phylogeny)
arbre
(French) Diagramme du branchement qui représente des rapports proche-voisin. Les voisins sont des taxa connectés par une seule branche. Les arbres phylogénétiques représentent le rapport généalogique supposé entre taxa avec un ancêtre commun (= arbe enraciné). (See also: taxon, genealogy, phylogeny)
