Readily distinguished from most similar congener Diapoma terofali by having 15-18 gill rakers on the lower limb of first gill arch (vs. 11-13) and 26-33 anal-fin rays (vs. 24-27) (Ref. 86734).

Description: Dorsal-fin rays ii, 8; anal-fin rays iv-v, 24-27; pectoral-fin rays i, 9-11; pelvic-fin rays i, 6. Total number of gill rakers on first gill arch 16-19, (Ref. 86734).
