Eastern Atlantic: from Scotland to Senegal, the Canary islands and Madeira islands and the Mediterranean, at least as far east as Genoa (Italy).

Facultative air-breathing (Ref. 126274); Occurs on rocky, seaweed covered shores, particularly among small boulders. Most common in the intertidal zone amongst the algae Himanthalia and Laminaria (Ref. 4489).
