Distinguished by the following characteristics: Fins (n = 28) DI VI; D2 1/9-10 (9:1, 10: 27); A 1/9; P 15- 17(15:2, 16: 12, 17: 14); C (branched rays) 14- 15(14: 12, 15:5, d: 11); V 1/5, separate; first spine of Dl longest, very prominent in males which may, depressed, reach the D2 8; scales (n = 28) ctenoid, breast cycloid; LL 26 - 29 (26: 4, 27: 10, 28: 10, 29: 4); TR 7 - 8 (7: 11, 8: 8, d: 11); uppermost and lower most scales on caudal fin origin more or less elongated, of triangular shape with pointed posterior tip and long ctenii which decrease in size towards tip of scale (Ref. 86376).
