Etymology: Bodianus: Bodianus after Bodiano or Pudiano, from the Portuguese pudor, meaning modesty (Jordan & Evermann, 1896); trilineatus: Name for the Latin tres for the number three, and lineatus for 'of a line', referring to the 3 prominent dark stripes on the side of the body in juveniles and initialphase adults of this species (Ref. 75973).
