Etymology: Placidochromis: Latin, placidus = of peaceful or tranquile appearance + Greek, chromis = a fish, perhaps a perch (Ref. 45335); ecclesi: Named in honour of Mr. David H. Eccles, who worked for about 2 decades on the biology, evolution and taxonomy of Lake Malawi cichlids (Ref. 55898).
