Etymology: Bodianus: Bodianus after Bodiano or Pudiano, from the Portuguese pudor, meaning modesty (Jordan & Evermann, 1896); oxycephalus: Name from the Greek oxys for acute, and cephalofor head, referring to the sharply pointed head in this species (Ref. 75973).
