Dorsal soft rays (total): 8; Anal soft rays: 6. This species is distinguished from all its congeners by the following characters: high (body depth at dorsal fin origin 39.1- 40.7 % of SL) and strongly compressed (body width at dorsal fin 14.9- 15.8% of SL) body; barbels are small, not reaching to orbit; anal fin with 6 branched rays and last ray divided to root; lateral line scales 29-30; pre-dorsal scales 11-12 (Ref. 132573).
Cross section: compressed.
This species was collected from a river channel which is 4 m deep and 710 m wide; color of the water at the type locality was little dark. The aquatic stream was with dense aquatic vegetation especially of Utricularia, Hydrilla, Vallisneria and others; moderate population of aquatic ferns and mosses; riparian vegetation was moderate; plants identified were Ammania baccifera, Brassica compestris, Cynodon dactylon, Eclipta alba, Euphorbia hirta, Mollugo hitra, Polygonium barbatum, P. glabrum and others. Protozoans such as Colpidium, Arcella, Eugleana, Amoeba, Paramecium and others were also found. Aquatic insects observed include Cloeon, Micronecta, Microvelia, Helichus. Stenelmis, Gerris. Associated fish species were Anguilla bengalensis, Alia coila, Chela laubuca, Crossocheilus latius, Ctenopharyngodn idella, Chitala chitala, Danio devario, Cirrhinus reba, C. mrigala, Channa marulius, C. punctatus, Gibelion catla, Batasio batasio, Barilus bendelisis, Bagarius bagarius, Chanda nama, C. ranga and others (Ref. 132573).
