Marine; reef-associated; non-migratory; depth range 1 - 15 m (Ref. 7247). Tropical; 0°S - 14°S
Western Central Pacific: Bismarck Archipelago of Papua New Guinea (Ref . 84037). Re-examination of the type series of Chrysiptera sinclairi revealed that several of the paratypes are actually identifiable as Chrysiptera cymatilis (Ref. 31117).

Adults inhabit sheltered lagoon coral reefs (Ref. 7247). Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate (Ref. 205). Males guard and aerate the eggs (Ref. 205). Diurnal species (Ref. 52881).
