Etymology: Enteromius: Greek, enteron = intestine + Greek, myo, mys = muscle (Ref. 45335); ruforum: Named after the couple Rosmarie Ruf and Karl Ruf (1950–2002†), in recognition of their vast, groundbreaking, and relentless engagement to the protection and conservation issues in the region; Rosmarie Ruf is the actual director of the WCG at Epulu in the OWR.

Dorsal spines (total): 3; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 5; Vertebrae: 26 - 27. This species is distinguished by the following characters: last unbranched dorsal-fin ray is flexible, simple, and not serrated barbels two pairs; circumpeduncular scales 12; complete lateral line with 24-26 scales; scales between the dorsal-fin origin and the lateral-line 4-5; no blackish vertical bars on flanks; a blackish well-marked midlateral band on the flanks with a distinct black spot to the center of the caudal-fin base; no spots on flanks; eye diameter, 26.2%-28.0% HL; body depth, 24.7%-26.6% SL (Ref. 132585).

Specimens were collected in calm waters during the minor dry season (June-August) because the river does not dry up completely during this season, contrary to during the major dry season (December to February).
