This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following chatacters: D VII-I,10; pectoral-fin rays 18-19; with a pair of ribs on the last abdominal vertebra; tiny projections 4-5 present on symphysis of lower jaw; total vertebrae 10 + 15; ctenoid scales strong; scales below lateral line 10; total gill rakers 28-29; with pungent opercular spine; no maxillary mustache-like process (Ref. 132291).
