Dorsal spines (total): 10; Dorsal soft rays (total): 11; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 8; Vertebrae: 24. This species is distinguished by the following characters: with an indistinct opercular spine which is fully covered by skin; black tip of upper lobe of caudal fin; steep and long snout, 10.8%-12.1% SL; eye small 7.8%-10.1% SL; cheek deep 5.2% SL; otolith relatively slender and complicated; caudal fin relatively long 29.2%-31.5% SL; deep fin concavity 18.9%-19.7% SL; strong genetic divergence at mitochondrial markers (cytb and COI); it has a much larger body size with fork length exceeding 115.0 cm FL (Ref. 123743).
