Mormyridae (Elephantfishes)
Etymology: Marcusenius: Becasue of J. Marcusen, author of "Zur Phauna des Schwarzen Meeres", 1867; ichthyologist.
Environment: milieu / climate zone / depth range / distribution range
Ecology
Freshwater; demersal. Tropical
Africa: Known only from the Bagbé and Rokel Rivers in Sierra Leone.
Size / Weight / Age
Maturity: Lm ?  range ? - ? cm
Max length : 18.7 cm SL male/unsexed; (Ref. 2915)
Dorsal spines (total): 0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 21 - 23; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 25 - 29. Median depression on head. SL/Body Depth ratio = 3.7-3.8. Origin of dorsal fin in same level or slightly behind anal fin origin. Pectoral fins shorter than head and the extremities reach the origin of the pelvic fins. Small eyes with diameter 6.0-6.8 x head length. Affinities: close to M. ussheri, differentiated by the number of dorsal fins and the eyes which are smaller relative to the head length. M. mento also found in the area of repartition and distinguished by the number of dorsal and anal fins and the number of scales on the lateral line.
