The species is characterized by 22–23 rakers on the first gill arch, 29–31 vertebrae (12 abdominal vertebrae), and two ventrolateral oriented spurs on the haemal arch of the first caudal vertebra; D III 15–16; P 16–17; seven soft rays in the ventral fin; ventral fin starts after the vertical line of the posterior margin of the pectoral fin basement; the anal fin starts under the last ray of the dorsal fin or just after the dorsal fin; four scales are on the operculum (Ref. 87971).
